Creative Learning and Artistic Activities: How Crucial Are They In A Child’s Development?
Children are the future of Sri Lanka, one can even go far enough to imply that children are the future. Evidently, it is everyone’s responsibility to raise healthy, intelligent and creative citizens of the future. Artistic activity and creative learning are critical factors for a child’s development. Kids absorb the ability to think clearly, solve problems, face issues and work accordingly via creative learning and artistic activity.
Significance Of Creativity And Artistic Activity For A Child’s Development.
According to Brazilian researcher Dr. Suzana Herculano-Houzel, the human brain consists of approximately 86 billion neurons that connect with each other. These connections are called synapses.
When the neurons in the brain get activated they become stronger, and when they are not activated they become disabled. The neurons work on a ‘use it or lose it’ basis. According to the stimulants we give our children new bonds are created as a response. As such new bonds are created, the brain gains the ability to accept and become skillful in the various new experiences the child gets.
A child’s thinking ability and creativity can also be developed through drama, music, and dancing. This means that a child becomes stimulated when engaging in such activity. These activities benefit a child’s explorations, findings and sensitivity mostly. They create the place they will own in the world for themselves. Likewise, little children can use these activities to communicate their feelings. They do not talk about their stress or fear often. However, if they engage in creative artistic activities they will use paint, colors, artistic movements, drama, music and dance to express their feelings. Thus, various novel ideas and creations can be born out of free creativity.
Developing Creative Learning Through Pictorial Art
Kids show great liking towards paper activity such as fingerprinting, pasting, colorful pictures, drawing, cutting and tearing. Children learn a lot through pictures. For this, it is best to give them pictorial stories and storybooks with big pictures.
Development Through Drama
Children show great interest in creating new things. They like to dress the way adults dress and make play rice. They make the objects around them according to the way they need them when they play. Most kids love the word “why”. That is because they like to learn things out of curiosity. Likewise, if they were given items to dress up a doll they would do so in a creative manner.
Learning Via Music
By developing a child’s musical skills, his or her ability to learn will improve. This, in turn, will have a profound effect on their skills in language, mathematics, and science. Children show an interest in listening and they also sing certain songs while playing. Some imitate certain musical instruments, sounds, and words. They beat objects together and make noises. Memory power gets developed through singing. Ability to pronounce words, imitating, and identification of words will also develop.
Development Through Dancing
By learning to dance a child’s balance and rhythm develops, through which the body’s grace, flexibility, and discipline are developed. When dancing to a rhythm the body gets accustomed to understanding something easily.
In this fashion when learning children receive information and retain them according to the aforementioned ways. Therefore, if children’s surroundings are prepared accordingly it will have a great impact on their development. Due to this, directing their interest toward artistic activities and creative learning will bring prodigious cognitive benefits, and other developments crucial for their future.
